1

What is sophrology?

Sophrology is a mind-body method created in the 1960s by neuropsychiatrist Alfonso Caycedo. It combines breathing exercises, dynamic relaxation, and positive visualization to harmonize the body and mind. Its goal is to strengthen self-confidence, manage stress and emotions, and improve daily life.

2

What is the purpose of sophrology?

It helps manage stress, sleep disorders, phobias, mental preparation (exams, competitions, childbirth), support for chronic illnesses, life transitions (job loss, retirement, bereavement), and much more. It is also used in companies for the prevention of psychosocial risks.

3

Who is it made for?

Adults, teens, children, seniors, pregnant women, athletes, people in career transition or experiencing burnout… Sophrology is suitable for everyone, without major contraindications.

4

How does a session unfold?

A session typically lasts one hour. It begins with a discussion to define your needs, followed by breathing and relaxation exercises (standing or sitting), and concludes with a time to share your experience. The exercises are simple and accessible to everyone.

5

How many sessions are needed?

It depends on your goals. On average, 5 to 12 sessions are enough for lasting results. For specific needs (e.g., managing stress before an event), 1 to 4 sessions may be effective.

6

Is it covered by Social Security?

No, but some health insurance companies offer "wellness" packages that may cover all or part of the sessions. Remember to check with your supplemental health insurance provider.

7

Is any special equipment required?

No, just come dressed comfortably. Sessions can take place in the office, at home, outdoors, or via video call.

8

What is the difference between this and hypnosis or meditation?

Sophrology is active: it relies on structured exercises and conscious participation. Unlike hypnosis, you remain in control of your state of consciousness. Compared to meditation, it is more guided and oriented towards specific goals.

9

Does sophrology replace medical treatment?

No, it's complementary. It doesn't replace medical treatment, but it can alleviate side effects (e.g., pain management, support during chemotherapy). Always consult a doctor if you have a health problem.

10

Can I practice on my own after a few sessions?

Yes! The goal is to make you independent. I will provide you with tailored exercises to do at home, as well as audio recordings during individual sessions.

11

Is it effective for children?

Absolutely. Children (from 5-6 years old) respond very well to sophrology, particularly for managing school stress, sleep disorders, or strong emotions. The sessions are adapted to their age, often in the form of games.

12

And what about seniors or people with reduced mobility?

Sophrology is ideal because it adapts to all physical conditions. The exercises can be done sitting or lying down, and help to preserve autonomy, memory, and serenity.

13

Do you offer in-company sessions?

Yes, I conduct workshops in companies on stress management, quality of work life (QWL), prevention of psychosocial risks, project management, and public speaking preparation. Prices and formats available upon request.

I welcome you to my office in Offendorf (Alsace), surrounded by nature on the banks of the Rhine, 25 minutes from Strasbourg city centre, and I also travel within a 15 km radius. Home visits and video consultations are also available.

16

How do I make an appointment?

By phone, email, or online by clicking on "Book an appointment". I also offer a free 15-minute introductory chat.

Does sophrology always work?
